Dyno 2

Kids Smartwatch Design @ Coolpad / Supervisor: John Choi / Team Member: Li Lin(Lead Designer), Ricky Wang, Donny Chen

Dyno 2 is the successor to the Coolpad’s Dyno 1 Smartwatch for kids. Following the successful launch of the Dyno 1 at MWCA in 2018, the product team started to talk to numerous Dyno 1 users to gather feedback in order to improve the next generation product. Initially kids found Dyno 1 was cool to look at, but after they wore them to school or friends gathering, their peers often made fun of the watch was too “babyish”. So we had an insight that deep down in their heart, kids want something that is more like what the adults are using, which they consider “cooler”. Based on this psychology, we decided to do a “face-lift” for the watch face and body with a more mature design and color scheme. However, still paired with colorful and vibrant strap colors to represent the lively and fun aspect of children. In addition, all the strap colors are gender-neutral and interchangeable, so more combinations for the little ones to mix and match from.

Dyno 2 is a "kids" smartwatch that kids will not be embarrassed to wear. Moreover, making environmental-friendly products is what the team always kept in mind. We want to prolong the lifecycle of the watch, the way to do so is by adding a second interface option that does not use cartoon-like UI visuals. Kids can pair it with a more mature strap color for something that absolutely looks like a grown-up smartwatch, so they will not be embarrassed to wear it as they get older.

Around the back, you will find pogo pins that connect to an included magnetic charging cradle. That makes it easier to charge every day compared to the microUSB connector on the Dyno 1.
